    • About the Ceramic Kulhad (Indian tea cup)

Here is a note from Rupa Dinkar, the local artisan who hand made all our kulhads with great love and attention to detail!

"In today’s fast-paced life, I hope that my handmade kulhads invite you to take a moment to pause and reflect; to quietly enjoy a cup of chai. Using my one-of-a-kind handmade kulhad will elevate the simple day-to-day experience of savoring chai as you consider the process behind the creation of these beautiful objects.

I primarily use red clay which is sensitive and responsive to touch yet extremely strong and durable once fired. The pots are made on the wheel using bare hands and occasional use of basic tools. Once the pot is air-dried, imperfections like rough edges are sanded down before first firing or bisque.

The pot is then dipped in a custom glaze mix and is fired in a gas reduction kiln. The second firing transforms it from a soft, fragile substance to a hard and durable object. The temperature and the cooling rate impart additional unique characteristics to the pot such as patterns in the glaze as well as minor differences in size and shape of the final object.

These imperfections and differences that make each one of my pots unique are not dissimilar to the natural world that surrounds us: each leaf, each snowflake, each rock, around us is unique in its own way. You may notice a fingerprint, a tool mark or a blemish in the glaze which you can be assured makes your kulhad unique and unlike any other.

Each Kulhad takes 2 weeks to make from inception to finish!

While crafted by hand with care and love, my kulhad can stand up to daily use. They are durable, safe for food, lead-free, and microwave and dishwasher safe."

    • About Divine Connectivi-tea

Here is a note from the poet Sharmila Dixit. She articulates eloquently our very own thoughts about chai!

"As you sit down with this book, I hope you are cuddling a cup of your favourite drink in your hands.

This book comes to you with all my love. It is my intention that as you read through the pages, you slowly let go of all the thoughts and worries that are niggling at the back of your mind. I wish you experience a calmer and deeper place within yourself – a place where there is infinite peace and joy that is unchanging and untouched.

Allow yourself to feel the spaciousness enter into your Being and expand, as you read this book. Allow that spaciousness, to guide you forth in your life with clarity.

This is not a book to be read from end to end in one go – although you may be eager to do that. Choose any title that comes to your attention. Take a deep breath and pause as you read every line. Take time to relish the words. Be open to the timelessness that opens up with every read.

This is also not a book that is read once and put away. Pick this book up any time that you need a break from the swirl of activities and thoughts that have got you in their sway. Be assured that you will find your calm within a few moments of diving in – like a meditation in poetry!

What it is about tea/chai that I enjoy:It’s quite obvious that I like tea /chai but a little tidbit – I like 3 cups of tea a day – no less! The first cup starts my day. The second one is a mid-morning refresher and creative booster. The third one later in the evening is to unwind and relax. I love the slow, deliberate and almost meditative act of making the cup and drinking it. It symbolizes for me, a moment of quiet reflection, a conscious letting go of my thinking and return to a place of oneness, deep rest and surrender.

The time spent sitting with my chai on my favourite couch, overlooking the balcony is the highlight of my day. I passionately crave the company of my hot cup of tea.

But, there’s definitely something quite evocative, healing and intimate about sharing a cup of tea over a conversation with a loved one. The wisps of steam from the cup, the smell of the ginger, the soft music in the backdrop and the face and voice of a loved one feel like a return to Oneness; a re-connection with the Divine. Those moments of stillness are akin to finding “Divine Connectivi-tea”.

And… all that remains in me is a deep silence, clarity and wisdom that guides me effortlessly. So, are you ready for your cup of calm?"
