Nostalgia!

Cutting Chai glasses and Kettle

Wanted to share a small piece of prose that one of our loyal customers wrote, after seeing the "cutting chai" glasses in our stall. Our stall reminds him of the countless hours that he spent drinking chai with his friends while growing up in India!

Glossary

----------

Chotu - Teenage boy employed by most chai stalls who serves chai to the customers. Usually called 'Chotu'/'Tambi'/'Bhau' depending on which region of India you are from.

Banian - A once white, armless vest worn by chotus to keep cool during the summers!

I totally, totally, totally love the glasses!! Can almost feel the grime and various cracks and chips. I can FEEL five fingers expertly dipped into five of these glasses as chotu plonks them down on the table, resulting in a spill that makes the flies buzz away momentarily. The customers frown in annoyance. Chotu glares back, challenging them to question his skills.

For emphasis, he angrily moves the dirty towel from one shoulder to another, his banian momentarily shifting in the process.

He turns back hurriedly into the kitchen. Customers are not worth bothering about.

Us guys start sipping the 2/5 chai (buy 2 glasses, share among 5 folks! That is expert mathematics for you ;)) .

Ah, the power of nostalgia, thanks to the glass!!
